Ethical pact with suppliers
Italgas is closely linked to its supply chain. The suppliers of goods and services are increasingly closely integrated in the business model and contribute to the creation of value. In fact, they are directly involved in the “core” processes of the network infrastructure development and maintenance.
From its suppliers, Italgas expects not only competence and professionalism but also compliance with the company’s values and principles. For this reason, in its search for suppliers, the company takes great care and adopts a scrupulous attitude already starting with the process of qualifying and analysing the candidatures received.
The many elements assessed during the qualification process include:
- Technical and management skills;
- Economic and financial solidity;
- The ethical requirements;
- Commitment to the fight against corruption;
- Environmental protection;
- The promotion of healthy and safe working conditions;
- The lack of forced labour and economic exploitation of child labour.
In their contractual documentation, suppliers must necessarily declare that they are familiar with the Model 231 and the principles of the Italgas Code of Ethics, undertaking to respect the occupational health and safety and environmental protection laws, as well as the international labour rights standards.
For the most critical product categories, the procedures include strict fundamental qualification requirements, such as the supplier’s possession of management systems certified according to international standards.
The qualification process is part of the broader Vendor Management system, which comprises the monitoring of suppliers through audits, inspection visits and performance assessment processes elaborated with the aid of the units responsible for managing their contracts. The system is designed to safeguard the integrity of the sustainability of the supply chain. Italgas can put under observation, limit, suspend or even revoke the qualification of suppliers that fail to comply with the standards laid down.
In order to ensure that suppliers/subcontractors undertake to respect the principles and values considered indispensable and the strictest reputation requirements, Italgas has elaborated a document called “Pact of Ethics and Integrity”, which represents a preventive measure against infiltration by criminal organizations and corruption.
Economic operators that wish to receive work directly or indirectly from the Italgas Group must accept and sign the Pact of Ethics and Integrity. In this way, every supplier/subcontractor will undertake to adapt its conduct to the principles of loyalty, transparency and correctness and maintain the principles laid down in the Code of Ethics over time.
