We have always monitored the evolution of digital technologies to find those best suited for our business. Already today we are using IoT for remote control of the network, for cathode protection, for remote control and remote management of the meters, in addition to being able to allow operations personnel to communicate with the field sensors using an iPad.

Our network is already represented in digital form on an interactive mapping system available on the iPads the technicians use. These same technicians digitally receive the intervention planning and, in the field, they can acquire documents such as photographs and digital signatures of the customers, detect anomalies by interacting with the plants and, last but not least, get a final balance of the activities carried out, in this way reducing errors and back office activities.

For the future, we imagine for ourselves a path that thanks to the data in our possession and to the use of digital technologies (IoT, Big Data, Analytics, Machine Learning), promptly identifies problematic situations in the network structure, predicts possible faults and intervenes before they occur (predictive maintenance), thus reducing intervention costs and the time of disruption to normal service.

At a later date, as the technologies evolve, we would like to equip the network with enhanced intelligence so that the greatest number possible of processes (such as pre-heating and odourisation) are able to self-adjust themselves, thus optimising consumption and maximising the quality of the service offered.
