We are constantly committed to the evolution of digitalization: from the initial transformation in 2017 to the ambitious future goals for 2029.
A new path
During the market presentation of the 2017-2023 Strategic Plan – the first after the spin-off from Snam – Italgas announced its new growth strategy based on the digital transformation of assets, processes, and people. The first step will be moving all applications to the cloud, which will enable the transformation of the gas industry. Since then, the gas industry has gradually taken on a leading role in the decarbonization of consumption.
Innovazione e digitalizzazione
The drive for innovation does not slow down: the Digital Factory is born, where physical and virtual rooms operate with the Agile methodology, giving life to software and applications that help to further improve operational efficiency.
Entry into energy efficiency
With the acquisition of 100% of the Energy Service Company Seaside (today Geoside), the Group enters the energy services market.
Methanation in Sardinia
After the acquisition in 2018 of Medea, a gas distribution operator in Sardinia, in two years the Company brought methane to the only region then still lacking. Thanks to the construction of digital native networks and new logistics based on a network of small LNG cryogenic depots.
The Heritage Lab Museum
The digital transformation involves the Group at 360°: the Historical Archive and the Italgas Museum become Heritage Labs. New ways of digitizing documents provide scholars with an immense pool of big data from the past.
Bludigit, the Group's IT company, is born
Bludigit focuses on the Group's Information Technology activities and the Digital Factory. Bludigit is the pillar of the digital transformation path, which also aims to develop new synergies within and outside the Group in a service provider logic.
Launch of DANA (Digital Advanced Network Automation)
In 2021, the Group launched its centralised command and control system (DANA - Digital Advanced Network Automation): by leveraging the already implemented digitalisation of assets, DANA enables 24/7 automatic remote monitoring and control of the network.
The Group strengthens abroad, in Greece
Thanks to an international tender Italgas acquires the Greek gas distribution operator. The process of integration with the Hellenic group that changes its name to Enaon begins.
Geoside is born
In Italy, Italgas concentrates the various companies acquired in the energy efficiency sector in the new Geoside brand.
DANA for the manage biomethane connections to our network
In 2022 DANA was expanded to manage biomethane connections to our network: thanks to a bidirectional inlet valve, our technicians can remotely stop biomethane volumes if the quality of the injected gas does not comply with standards.
The commitment in the water sector, Nepta was born
Italgas takes over from the French company Veolia the shareholdings in some water service companies in Lazio, Campania and Sicily. These are Acqualatina, AcquaCampania and Siciliacque. Coordination is assigned to Nepta, the new company in which all water activities are concentrated.
Nimbus, the new smart meter
Introduction of the new Nimbus smart meter, designed to be hydrogen compatible and integrate advanced features for measuring and managing green gases. The latest generation ‘H2 ready’ smart meter with numerous features, developed in-house by the Italgas Group.
