Italgas Reti starts managing the natural gas distribution service in the Turin 5 ATEM

Over €87 million in investments planned to expand and digitalise the network across the 76 municipalities in the Area, creating approximately 1,000 new jobs in related industries.

Turin, 5 October 2026 – Today, Italgas begins managing the natural gas distribution service in the Turin 5 Territorial Area (ATEM), which includes Ivrea and 75 other municipalities in the Canavese area. The start of operations follows the signing of the 12-year service contract on 27 March 2026 at the Municipality of Ivrea, the contracting authority for the Area, which had launched the tender awarded to Italgas.

Following the award, the Company will launch an investment plan worth over €87 million to extend and strengthen the network, modernise the facilities and complete the replacement of traditional meters with latest-generation electronic meters, in an ATEM with 58,000 customers and 64 municipalities already served by the natural gas network.

“With the start of operations in the Turin 5 Area – commented Pier Lorenzo Dell’Orco, Chief Executive Officer of Italgas Reti – we are following through on the commitment we made to the local area when the service contract was signed. With over €87 million in investments, we will bring gas to the areas of Canavese that are not yet served and digitalise the existing infrastructure. We are building a network ready to accommodate renewable gases, such as biomethane and hydrogen, supporting the energy transition of the local area.”

The significant investment plan will have a substantial impact on local GDP, with positive effects on the productive system and the overall employment rate of the two provinces.

The extension of the service to new areas will create approximately 1,000 new jobs in related industries and contribute to an overall reduction in atmospheric emissions of approximately 171,000 tonnes of CO₂ and 3,000 tonnes of particulate matter.
