Discover Hyround
Italgas is developing Sardinia’s first green hydrogen production plant directly connected to a city distribution network. This project marks a key milestone in the energy transition and opens up new opportunities for a zero-emission future.

A Strategic Project for Italy’s Energy Network
With Hyround, Italgas is carrying out a pioneering initiative—the first in Italy directly connected to a city distribution network—to produce, distribute, and utilize green hydrogen. The project has given rise to an innovative energy community in Sestu, Sardinia, where advanced technology, renewable energy, and local collaboration converge with the goal of actively driving the energy transition.

Why Sestu
The Sestu network is one of Italy’s most advanced gas distribution infrastructures. As a “digitally native” network, it is equipped with extensive sensor technology, making it well-suited for the distribution of renewable gases. Customers connected to the network have been provided with the new Nimbus digital meters—the most advanced in the world for managing and measuring mixtures of methane and hydrogen.

The Plant: A Hub for Green Hydrogen
An innovative facility for the production, storage, and distribution of green hydrogen is being developed in Sestu. The infrastructure integrates renewable energy sources, electrolysis, and a digital gas network to supply utilities, public transport, and local industry, paving the way for a new sustainable energy model.

The Strategic Value of Green Hydrogen
Hydrogen is a key element in shaping a sustainable energy future. Italy is well-positioned to play a central role in its development, promoting green hydrogen as a flexible resource for industry, mobility, and renewable energy storage.
