Strategic Plan’s initiatives from an ESG perspective

IG Focus

The entire structure of Italgas' Strategic Plan 2020-2026 is based on sustainability – a key factor in the transformation process undertaken by the European energy sector, with crucial impacts both on the economy and on Earth’s survival.

In the future, gas networks will be required to provide a service very different from today. Transporting gas to redelivery points will not exhaust their role. Infrastructures must be prepared to transport green energy sources, in addition to ensure balance and flexibility in the whole European energy system.

From this perspective, the Strategic Plan has also been shaped with the aim of deploying investments that will prepare Italgas to be an increasingly sustainable company – a company able to play a key role in the energy transition, while being a protagonist with its networks even in the coming decades.

The Sustainability Plan continues to deliver results: 81% of the planned actions have already been completed

Italgas has a specific Sustainability Plan, updated on an annual basis, which covers nine points of the Sustainable Development Goals promoted by the United Nations. The Plan is based on five strategic priorities and 47 specific initiatives, most of which have already been executed.

The inclusion of Italgas in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index World – achieved on 13 November 2020 for the second year in a row – proves that sustainability is at the core of growth strategy and value creation for all stakeholders.

In the last few weeks, moreover, ISS – Institutional Shareholder Services – upgraded to A- the ESG Corporate Rating assigned to Italgas, together with a specific QualityScore recognition for the “Social” section.

Being an endemic factor, sustainability is transversal to the four pillars of Italgas' new Strategic Plan – core business development, digital transformation, new opportunities, as well as financial structure and shareholders’ returns – and it is declined in the different dimensions of ESG, Environment, Social & Governance. The following are the main topics identified for each of the three dimensions.
