Italgas achieves OGMP 2.0 “Gold Standard” status for the sixth consecutive year and the highest reporting level (L5). Gold Standard Reporting also awarded to Enaon
Milan, 16 October 2026 – Italgas has achieved “Gold Standard” status for the sixth consecutive year, reaffirming its international leadership in measuring and reducing methane emissions. The recognition was awarded as part of the An Eye on Methane 2026 report by the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO), established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with the support of the European Commission.
The Company has also maintained L5 reporting level, the highest under the OGMP 2.0 standard, awarded only to companies that adopt advanced methane emissions measurement methodologies based on the integration and comparison of data collected through two independent detection systems. This approach ensures greater accuracy and reliability in quantifying emissions across the entire asset chain.
At the same time, Enaon – the Group company operating in gas distribution in Greece – has achieved “Gold Standard” status, reaching L5 reporting level. This achievement demonstrates Italgas’ ability to replicate its industrial model in international markets.
Italgas has also reaffirmed its commitment to renewing its participation in the programme for a further five years, until 2030. This commitment entails a 72% reduction in emissions from gas leakage by 2030 compared with the 2020 baseline, while continuing the monitoring and reporting activities that have enabled the Group to achieve Gold Standard recognition in previous years.
The IMEO report highlights the ambition and robustness of Italgas progress in implementing the OGMP 2.0 standard, with particular emphasis on:
- the acceleration of monitoring campaigns, with over 150% of the network inspected;
- the “super emitters” programme, aimed at ensuring prompt intervention in the event of significant emissions;
- “smart maintenance”, which integrates machine learning and field data;
- the automation of emissions assessment processes through the SIDERA digital platform;
- the development of predictive models for above-ground pipelines in critical areas, in collaboration with research centres;
- the use of advanced technologies, including Picarro’s CRDS (Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy), for highly sensitive and timely detection.
