Nimbus: the meter of the future, designed to offer more

A smart meter that enables our networks to receive, distribute and measure multiple types of gas more effectively, even in combination with each other.

Nimbus, the smart meter of the future, has a modular and compact design and excels in terms of performance, safety and sustainability. More reliable and safe, it is made of sustainable materials and offers top-notch performance.
Nimbus, developed by Italgas Reti and our tech company Bludigit, was presented in Paris during Enlit Europe, the international event dedicated to the global energy agenda.

The main features of Nimbus are:

a gas flow measurement system with static technology, compatible with natural gas and mixtures of methane and hydrogen up to more than 20%
a seismic sensor and an external temperature sensor that interrupt the gas supply in the event of earthquakes and fires
anti-burglary solutions: they allow to detect tampering attempts and disconnection of the appliance
remote communication modules based on NB-IoT technology for the primary network, LoRaWAN for the secondary network and a backup network based on mesh technology, so as to guarantee the highest quality of signal transmission
an average communication battery life of 15 years, about twice as long as traditional smart meters on the market

Security

It is equipped with sensors that detect the pressure in the gas network and allow the automatic closure of the solenoid valve in the event of seismic events or fires. It also features tamper-evident solutions.

Performance

It offers a communication battery with a life of 15 years, remote communication modules to ensure maximum network coverage and measurement of the actual residual battery charge.

Sustainability

It is made with recycled materials and has an EPD certificate, to highlight the environmental performance in terms of sustainability.

Nimbus is the result of intense research, design and development work that has seen us take advantage of the important know-how acquired in these years of overall digital transformation of assets and processes. We are aware that we have made a new technological leap that allows us not only to confirm ourselves as a global technological benchmark, but above all to contribute to the consumption decarbonisation targets by enabling an increasingly efficient distribution of renewable gases.
